Avandia Legal Assistance

The Evidence Against Avandia Is Clear

Unfortunately, GlaxoSmithKline has not sought out those who have been harmed by their actions, and they are unlikely to do that. Like other giant pharmaceutical companies caught in the same situation, they make it as difficult as possible for injured people or the families of diabetes patients who have died to get the compensation they deserve.

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, May 2007:

Conclusions: Rosiglitazone [Avandia] was associated with a significant increase in the risk of myocardial infarction and with an increase in the risk of death from cardiovascular causes that had borderline significance. Our study was limited by a lack of access to original source data, which would have enabled time-to-event analysis. Despite these limitations, patients and providers should consider the potential for serious adverse cardiovascular effects of treatment with rosiglitazone for type 2 diabetes.

The company's response to the Avandia study was to criticize the study. The fact that other studies substantiate the Journal does not sway GSK's stance, though late in 2007, they did acknowledge problems with Avandia and wrote a black box warning for the FDA.
